Introducing action-to-formula paradigm to Itogon elementary Math teachers

The overall goal of this program is to enhance the skills of elementary Mathematics teachers in the Municipality of Itogon through the use of action-to-formula paradigm. Such an approach will enable the pupils to make sense of mathematics by discovering mathematical relationships on their own, communicating their ideas and reasoning logically, exploring various ways of solving problems, and regarding making mistakes as part of learning. These experiences will make the students as the most important factor in the teaching-learning process. Such is a big departure from the traditional classroom scenario where the teacher is the source of all learning.

A research output employing primarily a qualitative analysis on the lived experiences and insights of the teachers during its first year of implementation shall be submitted. Moreover, a quantitative analysis on the performance of the pupils whom the teachers were able to employ the learned strategies will be conducted. The performance indicators established by the Department of Education for the K to 12 curriculum shall serve as the basis for the quantitative research. The experiences gained in the program will also be shared to the students who are taking up undergraduate degrees in teacher education focusing in Mathematics.
