Establishing family-based acute respiratory infection prevention and management program at Barangay Poblacion, Buguias, Benguet

The overall goal of this program is to provide the community access to health services by empowering the mothers and the health care workers relative to the prevention and management of acute respiratory infection (ARI) through conscientization, participation, and mobilization. Through this program, there will also be an increase in the level of family functioning and involvement in community-building process. The mothers will be tapped as the key players for this program since they are the ones who maintain and sustain the health of the family. Teaching them about acute respiratory infections relative to its assessment, management, and prevention will decrease related complications like pneumonia.

The research outputs that may emanate from this program may focus on the following areas: (a) epidemiology of ARI in the target area; (b) establishment of an occurrence map focusing on the number of cases, population, and ARI prevention practices; and (c) and the effectiveness of trainings or the program as a whole.

Results of these researches are envisioned to be published in any scientific journal focusing on ARI and community health.

In relation to instruction, brochures and other learning materials will be designed and disseminated to the nearby schools where most of the children are enrolled. These will also be utilized as additional teaching and learning resources in relevant nursing subjects.
